3 Different Types Of Sunglasses To Choose From

Sunglasses should be worn at all times while you are outside to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. When buying sunglasses, there are different types you can choose from. Below is some information about these sunglasses so you can make the best-informed decision on what is best for you.

Polarized Lenses

These sunglasses lenses help to reflect the glare from the sun so it does not get into your eyes. They work well if you play a lot of sports or spend a lot of time in the water. Even if you play snow sports, light reflects off the snow and gets into your eyes.

Sunlight that is reflected off surfaces, such as water or a road is horizontally polarized. Therefore, instead of the sunlight being scattered around, it has a direct route straight to your eyes.  If you have ever been driving and the sun has caused a glare in your eyes, this is the reason why. Polarized glasses have a special filter on the lenses that cut out this glare.

Mirror Coated Sunglasses

This type of lens has a coating on the outside of the lens that reflects the sun. This coating is often called flash coating. They are especially useful if you will be outside in bright conditions, such as at the pool, the park, etc., on a very sunny day. When choosing these lenses, you will see they come in a variety of colors, such as metallic, gold, and silver. You can also choose other colors, such as blue, pink, orange, and more.

Clip-on Lenses

There are also clip-on sunglasses lenses that you can put over your glasses. They provide you just as much sun reflection, but you can take them off and on easily. They are also available in different types of lenses, such as the mirror coated and polarized. You can purchase these clip-on sunglasses at many stores that sell sunglasses, or you can purchase some through your eye doctor who can ensure they fit over your glasses perfectly. When they fit right, it is hard to tell that you are wearing them.

Your eye doctor is the best person to help you choose the type of lenses that are best for you. If you prefer, you can have a coating put on your current glasses to reflect the sun. This coating allows your glasses to turn into sunglasses while you are outside, but go back to normal lenses when you are inside away from the sun.
